the wood, tradition and experience |
selection and purchasing
| Standing high in the best renowned forest of France, the rigorously selected oak trees make a raw material of a noble character.
The wood is mostly purchased from the french National Forestry Office (ONF), by successful bidding.
forest-seasoning
| Natural seasoning of the wood starts in the forest, not far from where were felled the trees. This seasoning phase will give the wood a perfect maturation leading to develop the future aromas of the wine. |
cutting and splitting
| Felled during the fading light of the last quarter moon, at a time when the tree sap is at its least, and under the supervision of the ONF, the oak trees, now logs are split into staves.
Nadalié is the only cooperage which can guarantee the use of regular, manual splitting, a time honored tradition.
ageing the wood |
watering and drying
| Stacked in the yard, the staves are watered and then left to the elements (Sun, Rain and Wind), for more than two years.
This important process eliminates the harshest tannins, thus allowing the wood to fully express its aromatic richness.
selection & traceability |
identifying the staves
| Complete traceability is offered thru our tracking system. From forest to barrel, it helps Nadalié to better select its wood and guarantee the winemaker the origin of the wood. |
CTB certification
| Nadalié is one of only a few cooperages that can boast French CTB certification.
This label of quality, requiring stringent and frequent inspections by the CTB, recognizes the high quality level of our products.
